Re: Поговорим на английском.
Cherry (Vishenka) dear, I think you should start a separate thread for those who wish to speak German. It would get very confusing if people started reacting in German to English posts and the like. Besides, people who speak German will be more drawn to a thread specifically naming its purpose as speaking German, rather than one that calls itself the English-speaking thread. Just my 2 cents, of course.
For everybody here who has a strong desire to learn the English language and isn't afraid of putting in some extra effort to achieve great results, I suggest looking for audiobooks online - for example, on eMule. You could start out with books you have already read in Russian, such as Tom Sawyer, Robinson Crusoe and Uncle Tom's Cabin. You could also try some of Shakespeare's more famous work, such as Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, but make sure to get a modern-day translation. 15th century English is quite hard to understand if you're not used to it.
To all the ladies on this board striving to perfect their language skills: may I suggest some Jane Austen and the work of the Bronte sisters? All you men will probably find things like Hornblower by CS Forrester and The Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy interesting. Although such works of literature are hardly gender-specific, of course.
Another thing a friend of mine recommended was using Lingorilla. It's apparently some sort of website where you can register and chat with people from all over the world - both people who are only making their first steps on the path of learning a new language as well as people whose native language is English (or German, or Spanish, or Chinese - whichever language you're trying to learn!)
I haven't tried the website myself because I haven't had time yet, but maybe some of you will find it interesting. I don't think I'm supposed to place hyperlinks on this forum so you'll have to google the website yourself. They advertise themselves as "the first global video community for learning languages". I hope you'll enjoy it, or at least find it useful.
